Income Tax Program (CVITP)
Free tax-filing help for eligible seniors — prepared by volunteers trained by the Canada Revenue Agency.
What is the CVITP?
The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) is a collaboration between community organizations and the Canada Revenue Agency. Our trained volunteers prepare and file simple tax returns free of charge, making sure you get the benefits and credits you're entitled to. Filing your taxes — even when you don't owe anything — is what keeps those benefits coming.
Am I eligible?
There are two criteria to qualify for the program:
- An income threshold of $35,000 for a single person, or $45,000 for a couple
- A simple tax situation — no self-employment income, capital gains, or rental properties
Why file your taxes?
Even if you don't owe taxes, filing a return ensures you keep receiving benefits such as:
- Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)
- Old Age Security (OAS) benefits
- GST/HST credits
- Manitoba Seniors' School Tax Rebate
- Canada Dental benefit
- Other provincial and federal benefits
What to bring to your appointment
- Government-issued photo ID
- Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Last year's income tax return
- All current-year tax slips (T4A, OAS, RRSP receipts, etc.)
- Any receipts for deductions or credits
